Re-Elect Sarah Loucks Bastrop County District Clerk

Updated: 6 days ago

Dear REpublican Voters,

I am hoping to win your vote for Re-election in the 2026 Republican Primary. It is crucial that I win this race. This will be my last time running for re-election, and there is much to do in the next four years for Bastrop County’s future.

I was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, the “baby” of three other siblings. My Dad was a geologist; my Mother was a stay-at-home Mom who took good care of all four of us and still found time to volunteer. She logged 2,000 hours at the hospital, among other things. We were members of Floral Heights Methodist Church, where I attended Sunday school and sang in the choir. After graduating from high school, I attended Midwestern University, then came to Austin to attend and graduate from St. Edwards University.

My grandfather, who was the District Attorney and occasional acting judge for Gonzales County, was my inspiration to try my hand in the legal field. I went back to school and became a Certified Court Reporter working courts in Bastrop and surrounding counties, and taught Courtroom Procedures at Kussad School of Court Reporting. A few years later, a group of people urged me to run for District Clerk.

I first took office as Bastrop County District Clerk on January 1, 2011.

The District Clerk’s Office wears many hats. Our Civil Section handles Family cases, Adoptions, Delinquent Taxes, Divorces, Juvenile, Passports, and the Court Registry, to name a few.

Our Criminal Section handles all Felony cases up to and including Murder and Capital Murder. We also work closely with the District Attorney and the Grand Jury.

I implemented E-filing Civil cases in 2015, followed by Criminal in 2016.

I am also responsible for sending out Jury summons for the four Bastrop County District Courts and Bastrop County Court at Law, as well as the Justices of the Peace. I have a team of five who work together to accomplish the jury process from sending the summons, manning the jury phone line, and email responses up to the actual jury selection day. Watching them work together is like a well-choreographed dance. The jury schedule is growing along with the population, thus the demand for excellent Jury Management.

I must brag on my staff. They are amazing. They are very courteous and friendly to the public whom we serve every day, which is, after all, the whole reason we are here. We serve you, the taxpayers of Bastrop County. Technology is always changing, and new laws go into effect every two years when the Legislature meets. The District Clerk’s Office is always changing to move forward with the times. We strive to give you the best service possible.

Each year I work with the Commissioners and Auditor to create the new fiscal year budget for the County, considering Taxpayers’ dollars. I have never requested a raise for myself. I receive the same amount as my staff. I cut my budget wherever I can.

I have a Discretionary Fund which allows me to have the old records from late 1800’s Bastrop County courts restored and digitized. Each year I work with my Records vendor to select more historical records to digitize and restore. You may have heard about the Bastrop County Bar Association fundraiser for scholarships put on for the last ten years. The playwright, David Bragg, takes one of the old records and recreates Bastrop history, bringing to life true characters on the stage. The proceeds from what were originally old records turns into scholarships for Bastrop County high school seniors. I will continue to preserve Bastrop County’s rich History as long as I am in office. See my Records video and more at Sarahloucksfordistrictclerk.com.

I have been endorsed by the Bastrop County Bar Association, Bastrop County Conservatives, Dawn Thompson, Candidate Committee Chairman for the Bastrop County Republican Party, and Dianna Greenwood, former Bastrop County Chairman.
