Re-Elect Sarah Loucks
Bastrop County District Clerk
Heading 2
ABOUT SARAH LOUCKS

Upon taking office as Bastrop County's District Clerk in 2011 Sarah Loucks trained her clerks in Courtroom Procedures so they could assist our attorneys and judges in the courtroom. Her previous experience in the courtroom was as a court reporter.
She implemented Civil E-filing in 2015 when it was mandated. Criminal E-filing followed in 2016. She is now responsible for 4 district courts and 1 County Court at Law. She is also responsible for and attends all jury selections. She initiated the new jury management system which gives potential jurors more options to respond to their jury summons, such as responding online, thus saving people precious time, gas and a stamp!
Sarah is now on the steering committee for Bastrop County's new Justice Center which is geared toward Bastrop's population growth 20 years from now. With the explosive growth comes higher crime rate and more civil cases filed. The building will have many more courtrooms and ample office space. Along with the growth comes the demand for the DIGITAL FUTURE: paperless is the goal. Sarah continuously works with her Records vendors to restore and digitize our old records preserving Bastrop County's history. Preserving and digitization is a very slow process that most people do not realize. It is slow and very expensive.
She is responsible for 4 District Courts and 1 County Court at Law. The District Clerk's Office is responsible for Civil, Family, and Delinquent Tax cases. They also take passport applications. The Criminal Section handles all felonies, murder and capital murder. Needless to say, it is a very busy office. She always stresses to her staff the importance of professionalism, yet understanding each customer's situation and reason for the visit to the office. They are not allowed to give legal advice. That is a very fine line and are careful not to cross it.
She is a big proponent of cross-training the deputy clerks.
Sarah provides convenient options to the public as technology changes and our IT department allows.
